My story

Growing up orthodox in Jerusalem, my religious background didn’t allow me to study dance professionally. Despite this, at age six, I began dancing in a small studio. Being the only boy among girls and the only orthodox, I hid my kippah and other religious symbols. 

At age twelve, I discovered a cabaret cafe in Jerusalem's old city. I improvised on stage and since then became their "house dancer" for years. At age fourteen, I decided to leave the religion and since then, I search for ways to build bridges between my past and my future, between cultures, and between people.

Immediately thereafter, I studied dance at the Jerusalem High School for Dance, followed by the Maslool Training Program in Tel Aviv. Coming from an immigrant family, I worked as a street dancer to fund my studies. It was the toughest job I ever had. Inspired by this experience, I began inviting young artists to join me and create in public spaces. This project gained momentum when I performed in a car accident scene, which was spontaneously filmed by a journalist and viewed by many. Since then, the collaborative aspect is a core element of my practice. 

 

Throughout my career, I’ve combined my passion for sharing my inner world with the joy of collaborating with inspiring creators. Being inspired by the music world, I also collaborated with musicians I appreciate, such as Eviatar Banai, Tamir Muskat, Rami Fortis, Noa, and Benjamin’s Brother.

Today, I’m a member of the Israeli Choreographers’ Association. I create, dance,  and navigate my way through a challenging and exciting life. I find inspiration in collaborative artists, electronic music, broken heart, Hasidic dance, and alternative finance.

Choreography

My first full piece in 2015 explored my tense yet loving relationship with my Orthodox dad, and since then, my inspiration has consistently come from deeply personal experience.

Through the years, inspired by a creative method called “Open Source”, I developed an approach that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.

I also had the pleasure of working as a choreographer for brands such as Super Pharm, Artlist, and Twentyfourseven.

Dance

Throughout my career, I have performed with companies such as Batsheva Ensemble (directed by Ohad Naharin), Inbal Dance Company, KCDC as a freelancer, Idan Cohen Dance Company, Noa Dar Dance Group, and Odelya Kuperberg Dance Projects. Alongside company work, much of my career is freelance. Parallel to dancing in my own work, I currently work as a dancer on projects with Dafi Altabeb, Roni Chadash, and Olivia Court Messa.

Workshops

I feel a profound sense of purpose in offering dance workshops to people of all backgrounds, abilities, and dance experiences. It’s a pleasure to teach such diverse groups, from individuals who cannot walk to dancers who cannot sit still. I am also a certified teacher of Gaga, the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin, teaching worldwide.  My proudest achievement is a practice I developed, which invites participants to explore transformation by viewing the world as a computer simulation. This practice welcomes all levels and bodies, encouraging everyone to break free from the simulation and enter the real dance party we call life.

Acting

I studied acting through the Chubbuck method, applying this knowledge to my dance creations as well. Since then, I’ve taken on various roles in film and stage, and I’m especially proud of my performance in Ori Birger’s award-winning film “Night Stroll”, and I look forward to more exciting projects to come.

Music

Everyone has a little Covid baby - whether it’s sourdough bread or ceramics. Mine turned out to be music, and it definitely took on a life of its own. I’m now working on my first album.
